My wife and I had a fantastic holiday. Normally we just head for the beach as that’s what the kids like, but this year their grandparents took them to stay with some friends of theirs on an olive farm in Italy. They had a great time there. Anyhow, we could do whatever we wanted. Even though we were thinking of sightseeing in Europe, we finally went hiking and rock climbing.

4. A baseball game

Ralph and Ilene hadn’t been to a baseball game in about five years. They were only 15 miles from the stadium, but the heavy traffic on game day made those 15 miles seem more like 60 miles. It took about an hour to get to the stadium. Then, when the game was over, it took half an hour just to get out of the parking lot. Then the drive home was another hour. In other words, the travelling took longer than the game itself.

The fire spread to a nearby plastic cutting board, and then to the cabinets above the stove. Firefighters broke down a door after neighbours phoned them and rescued the unconscious Skylar.

8. From an e-mail

Hi Becky,
Thanks for taking care of our fish while we’re abroad. Don’t worry, it’s not difficult. We’ll feed them before we leave on Monday, so you’ll need to give them food just once – two days later. They should be fine until Thursday, when we get back. We’ll arrive late that night, so you can come on Monday for your money. Or if you are free on Saturday, we will be having some friends for dinner, so you can join us.
Thanks again!
Charlie

When should Becky feed the fish?

Bob’s Liquors was at the corner, halfway to the beach. It was the only store within a mile. It sold cold beer and cigarettes, which were the only two things that interested Pete that day. The owner of Bob’s Liquors was Bill. Bill had bought the store from Bob, but never renamed the store.
